Access Health CT’s Chief Executive Officer Named to Modern Healthcare’s 2022 Top Diversity Leaders List
HARTFORD, Conn. (Nov. 10, 2022) — Access Health CT (AHCT) today announced that James Michel, Chief Executive Officer of Access Health CT, was named as one of 2022’s Top Diversity Leaders by Modern Healthcare magazine. The profiles of all the honorees and honored organizations are featured in the October 17 print issue of Modern Healthcare magazine and on their website.
The Top Diversity Leaders in Healthcare program honors the top diverse healthcare executives and organizations influencing policy, care delivery and public health and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in their organizations and the healthcare industry.
Michel was recognized for increasing AHCT’s focus on eliminating health disparities, including commissioning the “Health Disparities and Social Determinants of Health in Connecticut” study in 2020, creating the Health Equity and Outreach Department in 2021 and successfully launching the Broker Academy in June.
The first cohort of Broker Academy students was recruited from historically under-insured Connecticut cities including Bridgeport, Hartford and New Haven. Twenty-nine of these students have now passed the state’s licensing exam and are prepared to serve as brokers within these underserved communities, which will create greater access to the healthcare system.
“I appreciate this national recognition of the work Access Health CT is doing to address the problem of health disparities in our state, which disproportionately affect minorities,” said Michel. “Eliminating these disparities and increasing the rate of the insured is a critical part of our mission and our dedicated team shows their commitment to that mission every day.”
