Access Health CT Announces Request For Proposals From Seasoned Brokers To Serve As Mentors

The deadline to apply is May 1

HARTFORD, Conn. (April 20, 2023) — Access Health CT (AHCT) today announced a request for proposals from health and life insurance brokers to mentor incoming professionals to the field. This five-month mentorship is part of AHCT’s 2023 Broker Academy Program. For details, click here. The deadline to apply to be a mentor is May 1.

The Broker Academy creates a pathway to license health insurance brokers by recruiting from, and building the skillsets of, those who live and work in historically underserved communities throughout Connecticut. The program, now in its second year, was created as part of AHCT’s mission to increase the rate of the insured and reduce health disparities in the state.

Individual brokers, brokerages and agencies are eligible to apply to be mentors. Brokers who serve as mentors in this program will have access to prospective clients in untapped areas of the state and the opportunity to recruit trained brokers to their agencies. Brokers also have the chance to expand their professional network by participating in AHCT pre-open enrollment outreach events.

To be considered for a Broker Academy mentor role, brokers must commit to mentoring from August 1 to December 31, be certified (or willing to become certified) through AHCT’s independent broker program, maintain an office and have space available to host a student in a professional setting and have three or more years of broker business experience.

Mentors will train students how to conduct a sales presentation, how to compare plans for clients, how to conduct sales calls and more. Student brokers will be in the office or conducting agency business for at least seven hours per week, and the mentor will provide at least three hours of direct instruction to the student broker per week.

“This is a great way for brokers to serve as a guide to someone new to the field,” said Access Health CT Chief Executive Officer James Michel. “It’s a chance for established brokers to be part of the important work of eliminating health disparities in our state, while at the same time an opportunity to increase their client portfolio.”

Responses to the request for proposals are due May 1 by 4 p.m.
