Close to 11% of 26 to 34 Year-Olds in Connecticut are Uninsured

Access Health CT Joins National Youth Enrollment Day
• Friday, December 6 is National Youth Enrollment Day–a national movement to ensure young adults are aware of their health coverage options and understand how to enroll.
• It is estimated that 26-34 year-olds represent the largest group of uninsured Connecticut residents.
• The US Census Bureau’s 2018 American Community Survey estimates that Connecticut residents aged 26 to 34-years-old are more likely to be uninsured than those in any other age segment.

HARTFORD, Conn. (December 6, 2019)—Access Health CT (AHCT) is raising awareness about the need for Connecticut’s millennial residents to enroll in health insurance coverage. A 2019 Access Health CT research report about the uninsured in Connecticut highlighted that Millennials aged 26 to 34 represent the largest estimated population of the uninsured in the state.

“Today is ‘National Youth Enrollment Day,’ a national movement seeking to ensure young adults are aware of their health coverage options and understand how to enroll,” said Chief Executive Officer of Access Health CT, James Michel. “Now is the time to enroll in a quality health insurance plan and we are here to help. Open Enrollment ends December 15 but there is still time to shop, compare and enroll.”

The National Youth Enrollment Day is organized by Young Invincibles, a Millennial think tank and advocacy group founded by a group of students in 2009 to provide a voice and platform for young people contributing to healthcare reform.
